Aleksandrov is an ancient city in the north-west of the Vladimir region, known as the residence of Ivan the Terrible, Aleksandrov Sloboda, in which interesting monuments of the 16th – 17th centuries were preserved and important events of Russian history took place.
The history of the Alexander Kremlin – the oldest suburban residence of Moscow rulers – begins with the Grand Duke Vasily III, who chose Alexandrov Sloboda as a place to rest and stop on the way to the northern shrines. Here were the prince’s favorite hunting grounds.
